A Belgian style Quad aged in Pinot Noir barrels for 11 months. We aged some on cherries for over a month and the following is the result.
30 Years of GLB
February 12, 2017 marks our 30th anniversary. To celebrate, we will do exactly what we do every year; brew a whole bunch of specialty, small batch releases, but package them in a fancy new bottle (yes, that’s real gold leaf). Here’s to another 30 years.
Aged in pinot noir barrels for 11 months, the mahogany/reddish coloured Belgian Style Quad picked up a lot of barrel characteristics along the way. Add in tart Montmorency cherries from Michigan for a month and you take an already intense beer up a notch. Sweet aromas of tart cherry, raisin and plum all mingle together with a touch of warming alcohol and Belgian spicing, leading to a big flavour punch of very tart cherry, pepper and soft caramel. The cherries really complement the Belgian yeast characteristics. Barrel notes provide traces of a soft vanilla, red wine (apple/grape) and some port-like qualities that blend nicely with the aforementioned flavours.
