A Belgian style Quad aged in Pinot Noir barrels for 11 months.
30 Years of GLB
February 12, 2017 marks our 30th anniversary. To celebrate, we will do exactly what we do every year; brew a whole bunch of specialty, small batch releases, but package them in a fancy new bottle (yes, that’s real gold leaf). Here’s to another 30 years.
All serious business for these tasting notes. The first release in our 30th Anniversary series of beers, the Barrel-Aged Belgian Style Quad kicks off the 30th year with a bang.
Aged in pinot noir barrels for 11 months, the mahogany coloured Belgian Style Quad picked up a lot of barrel characteristics along the way. Sweet aromas of dark cherry, raisin and plums, with a touch of warming alcohol, banana and spicing lead into a big flavour punch of dried candied fruits (prune, cherry, figs) soft caramel, pepper and alcohol. Barrel notes provide traces of a soft vanilla, red wine (apple/grape) and a touch of port-like qualities that blend nicely with the aforementioned flavours. Light hop profile and low IBU. Dangerously drinkable at 11.3% – we here at GLB have internally referred to this beast as a “sneaky bugger”.
Food Pairing Recommendations
