It’s on! The 4th Annual Cask Days IPA Challenge is upon us. Breweries from all over Ontario have been hard at work, and Great Lakes was no exception. Hosted by barVolo, this event features 32 different cask-conditioned IPA’s from 26 Ontario breweries and will be served blind. The event is $10.00 for admission at the door which includes: an official IPA challenge glass, tasting score card, and entry fee.
Great Lakes has brought home #1 IPA for 2 consecutive years and we plan to continue the pattern. We will be entering our defending champ – Karma Citra IPA, along with our Lake Effect IPA.
To kick off this weekends event there will be an IPA Spinoff from 2pm – 2am today at barVolo featuring the following Great Lakes casks:
- Apocalypse Later (Imperial Black IPA) – 10.8%, 100 IBU
- Audrey Hopburn (Belgium IPA) – 6.3%, 50 IBU
- MangOverboard (Light Kiwi Mango IPA) – 4.4%, 55 IBU
Spinoff tonight, IPA Challenge Saturday and Sunday – Oh yes it’s gonna be a great weekend!
Drink up!

The Brewer’s Plate is probably one of the most anticipated events for all of us at Great Lakes. This event allows individuals to enjoy dishes from local Ontario Chef’s and the chance to meet some of the talented Brewmasters we have here in Ontario. The Brewer’s Plates main focus is to present the public with unique food and beer pairings that are locally sourced. Though this event is a little bit pricey I have been told by many people that you will not regret it. The food and beer is outstanding and the net proceeds from the event will be going to Green Thumbs Growing Kids. Hopefully you all can make it out and don’t forget to stop and say hi!
Miss Malt…Out!
Great Lakes Brewery would like to extend a warm thank you to everyone who came out to Victory Cafe to celebrate our 25th Anniversary. We love to watch the Craft Beer industry grow and this was evident by the turn out at Victory last week. We hope everyone enjoyed themselves because none of this would be possible without you so – Thank You. Keep an eye out for our 25th Anniversary Robust Porter which were hoping hits the LCBO shelves and brewery retail store in less than 2 weeks time. Keep following our Facebook and Twitter for updates on more events, Project X bottle releases, and contests!
Bye for now!
