• June 19 Danforth Pub crawl with Troy from GLB & Jerry from Beau’s. Starting at Sarah’s on the Danforth and heading west to Morgan’s, The Only & Brass
  Taps.
• June 19 West End Pub Crawl with David from GLB & Rob from Beau’s. Starting at Bryden’s on Bloor West and heading east to Mugshots, The Local & The
  Rhino.

Mike Lackey has also been hard at work preparing a special beer for OCB Week. In collaboration with Ryan of Nickel Brook Brewery, they have put together a beautiful looking beer. It is a Belgian Tripel called Creepy Bitch. Brewed with blood oranges, passion fruit and rose petals, this beer will be featured at Bryden’s Best of the West event during OCB Week.

We are thrilled to be the first brewery to participate in the brand new series of events at Toronto’s Evergreen Brick Works - The Brewer’s Backyard!

On Monday May 21st, join the Great Lakes crew at the Evergreen Brick Works to celebrate Queen Victoria’s Secret with some terrific beers, which we will have in abundance, including a number of special one-offs! While we would love to tell you which beers we’ll be bringing ahead of time, that wouldn’t make for much of a surprise, so you’ll have to come out to see what Great Lakes will be offering.

We are also partnering with the good lads at Fidel Gastro’s - creator’s of food experiences in the form of extreme Cuban sandwiches. They will also be making a unique sandwich made with Great Lakes beer! Sounds delicious already.

The fun kicks off at 12pm and runs until 4pm. There is no admission fee to attend the event. Beer and sandwiches will cost $6 each.

About The Brewer’s Backyard
This summer, we’re taking the beer garden to the next level. After proving how hearty and passionate the Toronto craft beer lover is this past year, we’ve decided that we need to kick it up a notch! We are thrilled to announce the formation of a new beer series, the Brewer’s Backyard, to take place at the beautiful Evergreen Brick Works in Toronto. The Brewer’s Backyard gives you a chance to learn about, try and meet the people behind the best beer Ontario has to offer, in a casual and relaxed summer time setting. It’s as if you were drinking right in the backyards of the top brewers in the province.

We will be hosting six events beginning May 21st. featuring Ontario’s best craft breweries and some of Toronto’s tastiest local food vendors. Events will be held in the idyllic Koerner Gardens at the Brick Works. This means more beer, more food, more space, more everything. We will be donating a part of the proceeds to Evergreen’s very worthy cause.

Get ready for an amazing day:

• Great beer
• Delicious food
• Live entertainment provided by George Kash
• Lots of fun activities for the kids

There will not be an admission fee for the BBQ however, we welcome donations as the proceeds will be given to the Franklin Horner Community Centre. Beer tickets will be available to purchase.

You will also be able to visit our retail store for those of you who would like to bring some goodies home.

We’ve got a fantastic day planned, so you don’t have to worry about a thing! We have taken the liberty of organizing shuttle buses to and from Royal York subway station from 12 until 6, that way everyone can enjoy a few beers and get home safe at the end of the day. Now this is a family BBQ, so please bring the entire family out for the day! We’ve got face painting, dunk tanks, and lots of goodies for kids. We have not decided on the beers we will be featuring yet, however when we know, you will know. I will be blogging again closer to the event date to provide you with more details.

This is also a charity event. All of the proceeds from beer sales that day will be going to The Franklin Horner Community Center. Everyone can have fun celebrating 25 years of Great Lakes beer knowing that the proceeds will be going towards an excellent cause.

Come join us for a day of great beer, delicious food, live music, and lots of activities which are sure to get you in the spirit of Summer!

A big thanks goes out to bar Volo for once again hosting an amazing event. Unfortunately we did not bring home 1st place this year, which means we have to come up with something super crazy awesome for the next IPA Challenge. Congrats goes to Volo – taking 1st place for their house brew.

Great Lakes has brought home #1 IPA for 2 consecutive years and we plan to continue the pattern. We will be entering our defending champ – Karma Citra IPA, along with our Lake Effect IPA.

To kick off this weekends event there will be an IPA Spinoff from 2pm – 2am today at barVolo featuring the following Great Lakes casks:

• Apocalypse Later (Imperial Black IPA) – 10.8%, 100 IBU
• Audrey Hopburn (Belgium IPA) – 6.3%, 50 IBU
• MangOverboard (Light Kiwi Mango IPA) – 4.4%, 55 IBU
