Oh Canada! This Thursday’s Project X promises to be the most Canadian experience you’ll attend this year (unless the Leafs make it to the playoffs – that would just be ridiculous).

It is… Project X Night in Canada!

A night celebrating all things Canadian: beer, hockey, and back bacon sandwiches. I know…I’m salivating as I type. We will be broadcasting the Toronto – Philly game for your viewing pleasure and serving you back bacon on a bun with the option of veggie burgers for vegetarians. Our feature beers for the evening include a coffee stout called Morning, Morning with coffee brought to you by Fair Trade, Organic Coffee on Lakeshore Blvd; Pompous Ass English pale ale which is part of our Tank Ten Series; and Robohop Imperial I.P.A. which is perfect for those who crave an intense, flavorful, hoppy beer. Bringing a date to Project X? Don’t worry, we’ve cooked something up that will help you score this valentines day. Score – hockey theme….Let’s try to keep it clean people. We present to you a lovely 5% lager brewed with beets, chamomile, and pomegranate. Also being poured – mulled Winter Ale: we’ve added even more spices to the mix and this one will be served warm. So come get your last taste of Winter Ale for the season.

Oh! I almost forgot, we will also be bringing in an air hockey table for the evening. As many of you know we attempted to build a skating rink outside the brewery for this event, however Mother Nature would not cooperate with us this year. So…save the skates for another day but start brushing up on your air hockey skills and challenge me to a game if you dare!

Remember to rep your favorite hockey team – jersey, foam finger, toque (your choice) – and we’ll see you on February 9th at 6:30 pm sharp! (Can’t find us? Look for the wading pool out front )

Hello loyal GLB followers! It’s been too long. We apologize for our 4 month blogging hiatus but we are back online! So we have lots to catch up on, yes? Let’s get started. First off, this is my very first attempt at writing a blog (So beer with me – bad pun). Don’t worry the jokes only get better from here. I am new to the world of brewing but a veteran to the world of beer drinking. I have learned so much in the short five months that I have been with Great Lakes Brewery and am eager to learn everything there is to know about beer so I can pass the information on to you guys!

Check us out tonight, Friday February 3rd at Winterlicious. This event showcases local restaurants and pairs them with local craft breweries to provide a truly unique dining experience. Great Lakes Brewery has been paired with the Lazy Daisy Café and together we have put together quite a delicious dish. The Lazy Daisy’s famous beef chili has been infused with our award winning Red Leaf Amber Lager. We will also be serving some of our brand new Porter called Harry Porter and a new English Pale Ale called Pompous Ass which is a part of our Tank Ten Series. I’m looking forward to a great night with some wicked food and beer! I encourage everyone to comment and make suggestions because as you will find out – I love to talk and your input makes for good blog material so get to it folks!

Hiring Description for Packaging Positions

1) Great Lakes Brewery, Toronto Ontario, has an immediate opening for an experienced packaging line operator. Come join Ontario’s Premier Craft Brewer located in the heart of Etobicoke! This is a full time position. We are looking for talented folks who want to build a long term career with us as we continue to grow past our 25th anniversary.  Successful candidates should have the following: • At least 2 years experience in the beverage or food industry, specifically with fillers, labelers, packers and sealers. Experience with Cimec and Cask equipment a plus. • Mechanical aptitude and knowledge of proper use of tools and machinery • An aptitude for trouble shooting basic mechanical & electrical systems is preferred but not required • Experience operating a forklift • Be physically able to stand on your feet for long periods of time, stoop, bend, lift 55 lbs at a time. • Strong attention to detail & quality • Ability to work all shifts, additional hours & weekends as required • Ability to lead and follow safety protocols

2) Multi award winning Great Lakes Brewery Toronto Ontario is looking for a full time cellarperson who can also help with bottling and canning Toronto Ontario.   Experience is preferred but not required, can be an entry level position.   Duties to Include: Keg Cleaning/ filling Tank Cleaning Bottling  General Organization and Cleaning Filtration.
You must: Have a great attitude.  Work on your feet for over eight hours at a time  Lift up to 55lbs repeatedly Work in extreme temperatures for extended periods of time Work in loud production environments Work with chemicals of varying composition Work from heights Work in damp/wet areas  Work in confined spaces  Applicants should feel comfortable with the prospect of working overnight, early morning or evening shifts.
The ideal candidate would also have a formal brewing education and/or work experience, packaging operations and technical knowledge of packaging equipment, bottling line and tank/keg CIP experience, good mechanical skills and understanding of machinery, and a willingness to work on the packaging lines as a part of the packaging team.

Canadian Beer News Dinner Series #2

Canadian Beer News presents the second event in the Canadian Beer News Dinner Series, an ongoing series of dinners that bring together some of Canada’s top breweries and beer importers with outstanding chefs and restaurants to create unique and exciting beer and food pairing experiences.

This event will be celebrating the art of experimentation, as the adventurous beers of Great Lakes Brewery – including several special one-off brews – will be paired with the unique ‘cucina moleculare’ crafted by chef Howard Dubrovsky in the kitchen of his L.A.B. Restaurant.

Only 20 seats will be available for this dinner, so those interested in attending are encouraged to act fast!

Project X Movember at The Rhino

This month’s Project X is hitting the road and will be held at The Rhino with proceeds going towards Movember.

There will be 4 unique cask and draft beers which will be paired with a tasty food plate prepared by the kitchen at The Rhino. The cost is $15 with $5 going towards Movember. We’ll have some Great Lakes Swag as well as some gift baskets that will be raffled off throughout the night.
