Ontario Craft Brewers Conference – Brewers of the 90's

The fifth annual Ontario Craft Brewers Conference took place yesterday here in Toronto, bringing together over 1000 members of the craft brewing industry.
Brewers, sales representatives, production staff, marketers, and brewing students all gathered to get an industry update, took part in sessions, seminars, and tastings, and had the chance to roam the floor for the largest suppliers marketplace to date.
The highlight of the conference, for many people in attendance, was the Pioneer’s Panel that featured four individuals who built breweries and brewed through the 1990’s, including Peter Bulut, owner of GLB. Peter joined Jeff Carefoote (Amsterdam Brewery), Gary McMullen (Muskoka Brewery), Bruce Halstead (The Durham Brewery) and Cass Enright (Moderator) for 45 minutes on the main stage to talk about what it was like as a craft brewer in the 90’s, a time known in the industry as the Lager Wars. The discussion was honest, funny, educational and most importantly, beneficial to new breweries here in Ontario.
Here is the full conversation, uncut and unedited.
