The 17th annual Golden Tap Awards, Ontario’s most democratic awards event, took place on September 12th here in Toronto and Great Lakes Brewery took home the top two honours as the general public voted GLB their “Favourite Brewery in Ontario” and our beloved Octopus Wants to Fight IPA was named “Favourite Beer in Ontario.”
The Golden Taps are well known as the only major beer awards event in Ontario predominately determined by public vote by beer lovers in the province. Voting took place over a three week period in categories spanning Favourite Brewery, Favourite Beer Personality, Favourite Beer, Favourite Bar and more, and coming home with the two big awards is an honour.
Peter Bulut, Owner & President of Great Lakes, said, “winning a Golden Tap Award, in any category, is truly humbling as it is the public that votes for the winners. The whole GLB family works hard each and every day to produce exceptional beer, create memorable experiences both inside the brewery walls and out in the public, and have fun while doing it.”
He continued, “being named Favourite Brewery in Ontario is a testament to all the passion our team has for this industry and it’s amazing to be recognized for it.”
This isn’t the first time that Great Lakes has been named Favourite Brewery. Between 2014 – 2016 GLB won the award three years in a row (then named Best Brewery in Ontario).
In 2016 Canuck Pale Ale was named Best Regularly Produced Beer in the province while various GLB IPAs have been named Best Specialty and/or Seasonal Release each year going back to 2014 (Karma Citra, Octopus Wants to Fight, THRUST! an IPA).
From all of us here at GLB – THANK YOU! Thank you for voting for us and for supporting our fiercely independent craft brewery.
Keep tippin’ your glass of #FreshGLB in the right direction!
