ESB is a classic English session ale, designed as an exercise in balance between malt sweetness and earthy hop bitterness. Ours comes with a pleasant, biscuit-like malt character with the black tea and marmalade of East Kent Goldings hops.

Monty’s ESB has a floral and slightly earthy hop aroma and flavour. Despite the reference to bitterness in the name, ESB’s tend not to be as bitter as people unfamiliar with the style expect. ESB is traditional English style and it is bitter when compared to other styles typical of the time when it started being to be produced (i.e. not as bitter as a modern IPA). The medium-low bitterness is balanced with a bready and slightly sweet malt character with notes of light caramel or toffee.
