Here's a new beer that takes the classic west West Coast IPA formula (dry and bitter, fruity without veering into tropical/peach candy territory) and uses a couple modern hops that didn't exist yet when the style was initially en vogue. Superdelic from New Zealand and HBC 638 from Yakima combine for a beer that recalls the floral, citrus and resinous qualities of yesteryear with a contemporary twist.

Our brewers had a hankerin' to brew up a West Coast IPA. So we set out to make this one. Our only concern was being able to call it a West Coast IPA because we added a heap of recently developed New Zealand hops to the bill. New Zealand hops? West Coast style? What is this beer trying to be? Is it so far west that it's east? Is it so Far east that it's west? Then we remembered that we can pretty much do what we want. So we did, and watched our only concern dissolve into nothingness.
