Brewing with an icon

GLB Collaborates with Charlie Papazian for annual Ontario Craft Brewers Conference

Charlie Papazian is an icon.

The founding father of craft beer. The Godfather of homebrewing. The founder of the American Homebrewers Association and past president of the Brewers Association (US). The author of five best-selling books. And now he’s on the label of a virtually brewed beer, a beer produced for the annual Ontario Craft Brewers Conference by GLB in collaboration with Charlie.

A work in progress for close to a year, Charlie was to be in Niagara Falls this week as a guest of honour and keynote speaker for the OCB Conference. There were also plans for Charlie to visit us here at GLB to work on a beer together. Unfortunately, COVID changed those plans…

However, the show must go on, so, from the comforts of his home in Colorado, Charlie will virtually kick things off the conference on October 27th, and a beer was still brewed.

Over a delicious Zoom call back in September, GLB and Charlie teamed up to collaborate on Fist Bump, an American style hybrid lager. Charlie spent time with Mike Lackey (Brewing Operations Manager) and Nick Perry (Brewer, 7 Barrel Series) going over the recipe that he generously provided, chatted ingredients and crucial steps in the brewing process, shared some stories and answered a bunch of our questions.

The beer, Fist Bump Hybrid Lager, is now available through our online shop and in the GLB retail store. This American style hybrid lager offers intoxicating floral complexity and clean smooth earthy hop bitterness and features Charlie’s own unique yeast strain, Fist Bump.

Charlie will join hundreds of Ontario brewing professionals for a virtual cheers and tasting, joined by Lackey and Perry, on Thursday October 29th.

Cans retail for $2.80 ea, $22.40 (8pk), $60 (24pk).

Please note that this release is limited in availability.
