GLB is turning 30 and we’re throwing a party

Great Lakes Brewery 30 Years Young
– 30th anniversary celebrations kick-off February 16th at The Antler Room –

30th anniversary party - POSTERFebruary 12, 2017 marks an incredible milestone in the history of our fiercely independent brewery – the date of incorporation for Great Lakes Brewing (GLB). From humble ‘malt extract’ beginnings 30 years ago, to numerous Canadian Brewery of Year awards, it has been one incredible ride.

In true GLB fashion, we thought we’d have a year-long celebration, releasing numerous favourites from over the years. From barrel-aged beauties to spectacular IPAs and collaboration beers, our 30th anniversary will strive to encapsulate the vibrancy of this amazing industry that we’ve been part of for so many years.

SOLD OUT

To kick-off the 30th anniversary celebrations, on Thursday February 16th, GLB will be taking over The Antler Room (below The Loose Moose) for a one night party for the ages. The anniversary bash will boast a 15 tap feature, 10 piece band (The Double Cuts), merchandise table, and more.

Peter Bulut, Owner & Chief Brewing Officer, will also introduce the first beer release in the 30th anniversary series with a ceremonial toast in GLB’s new commemorative stemmed glassware.

“Turning 30 is a big deal for us,” said Bulut. “We wouldn’t be here without the amazing craft beer drinkers who support local beer. It is great to be one of the oldest independent breweries operating in Ontario and we can’ wait to celebrate all year-long with you.”

Tickets to the party will be available through the GLB online shop and at the brewery retail store. The $10 admission fee will get you a 30th anniversary commemorative glass, a sample of that first beer in the 30th anniversary series of beers, and complimentary appetizers.

25th Anniversary Bourbon Barrel-Aged Russian Imperial Stout (2012) – 11.9% | 60 IBU
We dove deep into the cellar and retrieved this 5 year old bourbon barrel-aged Russian Imperial Stout. The years have been kind to this special beer.

2015 Bourbon Barrel-Aged Imperial Solstice Stout – 11.9% | 60 IBU
Velvety smooth yet noticeably boozy, this full-bodied stout packs a delicate balance between sweetness, bitterness and barrel. Well rounded, complex and dangerous.

Apocalypse Later Imperial Black IPA – 10% | 100+ IBU
An Imperial Black IPA that is big and black, loaded with a wonderful array of aroma’s that consist of coffee, chocolate, roasted malt, citrus, pine and more. Much the same in the taste while finishing very dry and deliciously bitter.

Harry Porter and the Complicated Coffee Order – 6.5% | 35 IBU
This flavoured porter contains small amounts of scotch bonnet peppers, vanilla beans, touch of cinnamon and coffee (Station Cold Brew Coffee). Notes of chocolate, coffee, and vanilla are first out of the gate. Coffee, lots of coffee, vanilla, chocolate and a green pepper taste that has a touch of heat. (Mild heat).

Harry Porter – 6.5% | 35 IBU
As an American style porter, HP offers up the best of a traditional porter with a flash of unique bittering hops to complement the roasted malts. Chocolate, espresso, a hint of smoke and a touch of magic are all right there in the aroma and in the flavour. Medium bodied with a creamy, silky mouthfeel, and a soft chocolatey finish, HP is wizardly in all facets.

Orange Peel Ale – 5.3% | 20 IBU
Going Old School! First brew on our little birthday present – a 7bbl pilot system. A little different, you say? We sure hope so. Orange Peel Ale balances the unique flavour of oranges with generous amounts of hops to achieve a slightly fruity and refreshing taste.

Lake Effect IPA – 7% | 80 IBU
Lake Effect packs incredible aromas of grapefruit, mango and tangerines. Medium bodied with subtle malt notes and a pleasant and balanced bitterness. Notes of grapefruit, a refreshing burst of wintergreen, a hint of dill, and a soft underlying pine touch.

Canuck Pale Ale – 5.2% | 35 IBU
The minute you crack your Canuck, aromas of grapefruit, mango and pine hit you in the face; like a beaver slapping his tail on a pristine small body of water in Ontario. Gordie Levesque’s Beer. Your Beer. Our Beer. “Best Regularly Produced Beer in Ontario,” 2016 Golden Tap Awards.

Flight #GLB06927 (Experimental Hop Pale Ale) – 4.5% | 30 IBU
Experimental hop #06927 from Hopsteiner’s development program. Light malt body, notes of melon… fun experiment.

Over My Dad Body Pilsner – 5% | 25 IBU
We worked on a new pilsner. We like to drink pilsner around the brewery. We like this one. Get over my dad body!

Chill Winston Grisette – 3.8% | 22 IBU
Life can deal us some hard knocks. This beer was brewed for those moments, cause sometimes you just need to Chill Winston! This is a one-of-a-kind Grisette, an age old Belgian style with a modest abv.
