HOW HAVE WE NOT DONE THIS BEFORE?
Granite and GLB are two of the oldest craft breweries in Toronto, yet we’ve never done a collaboration before. In late 2022, we decided to rectify that by doing a home-and-home series; a brew day at Granite (an ale), and another at the GLB Brewpub (a lager), resulting in two spectacular batches of beer.
Brewers Mary Beth Keefe (Granite) and Mike Lackey (GLB) have been good friends for years, and are also big fans of each other’s brews. Mike is an avid fan of Keefe’s Irish Stout. “Whenever I see it on tap somewhere, that’ll be what I have.”, he said, while sipping on a pint. Mary Beth looks forward to the intermittent releases of Devil’s Pale Ale. “It has everything that I love in a beer.”
Mike has always been a proponent of collabs for the opportunity to exchange brewing ideas and to learn from each other. The chance to brew with Granite is no exception. “It was an easy decision for us. We’ve done a few English style brews, but not as good as Granite does.” Mary Beth was also excited to participate. “It only makes sense that we were finally able to get together and do this.”
WE DID IT! NOW LET’S HAVE A PARTY.
On Thursday, February 9th, GLB and Granite will celebrate our efforts by having a release bash at the GLB Brewpub.
We’ll have DJ GJackson spinning 80s jams, Curry Fries made with the Brewpub’s new frites and Granite’s famous curry sauce, and lots of beer-lovin’ fun!
GOLDEN OLDIES (Brewed at Granite) and RON’S LAGER (brewed at GLB Brewpub) will be on tap along with a tap feature of other Granite beers. Two real ales (gravity casks – one from each brewery) will be tapped for the event at a pop-up cask booth.
